Virgil Abloh is always stretching the bounds of sneaker fashion. The Chicago-based designer has done it again, with images of his “Menta” Air Max 97s dropping just prior to the start of New York Fashion Week.

This iconic running shoe was reimagined by Abloh and it features a two-tone grey upper highlighted by the tri-color Swoosh. The contrast of a darker grey on the bottom and lighter grey up top stays consistent with the subtle look he often tries to create.

Abloh’s signature Helvetica font can be seen with the bold black medial side text and “AIR”/”SHOELACES” hits. The asymmetrical tongue patch from the 2017 release and the infamous zip tie are also familiar touches.
This Air Max 97 sneaker is finished off with a simple grey midsole, translucent outsole and a bonus pair of teal laces. They will be available to the public on November 10 via select retailers.
